Light up Longford - Ireland
Project Light up Longford
We are in 2016, and I live in Longford since 2009 and I have a business since 2012, I have seen that the years have passed by and the town is not modernized, I have also seen that the town has an environment "cold", cold means not because the weather but the sadly appearance, even in the summer session I have not seen much light on the main streets of Longford.
I have inspired by traveling some cities of Ireland, seeing the colours, flowers and flags, and I adding some of my ideas that would possibly be great to modernize it.
What I suggest
Light up Longford is a project to modernize and design Longford with bright colours, flowers, lights to illuminate the establishments, many flags represent different countries, by doing this project It would be bringing to the town that often seems to be sad and dark and would give some hope and happiness
Suggested flags of countries because at the moment, Longford has 20% of the population are foreigners.
Social Inclusion Project
At the present time, Longford has 20% of the population are foreigners, most foreigners not involved in local community, I say this as a foreigner too, and I know how hard it was for being accepted in the town and there is feel some sort of racism from some people, I believe we are equal, we are humans, we do not have a "pure blood" of a single nationality, why we are racist about the colour, nationality…
Why we judge others and do not give opportunity for these people?
Sometimes we have travelled miles away to know a country, culture, food, behaviours and this place that we are going, or it could be our goal to know this country and we don’t realize that there is a resident of this country, whom we call "neighbours", and they live beside of you!
As I see, we face a local war, unnecessarily, it can appease friendly way, we have a racist and prejudgement of both parties, between Irish and foreigners, “War” and so generates ignorance.
Many of these foreigners I had talked would like to work and not stay on social welfare, but unfortunately society implies depending on nationality.
What I suggest
To make an international festival, to show off these migrants to their countries of origin, such as food ( it will be inspected by the HSE), dances, music, arts…
This event will be in the summer, on the main street for two days only, depending on how it will be the acceptance by the public.
After we could event to continue to indoors market, making this event become work for those people who are often than not "zombies" in Longford streets, we all need motivation and why not create an event to motivate town and its people!
Indoor Market
Indoor market available by the government, international will indoor Market in the same way that it was presented on the streets, it will be presented inside this market.
It would be helping not only foreigners, but as helping the COCO with taxes levied by this indoor market, we could give two months of shortage and there is a good result, these people would pay rent to the government for utilization of this indoor market.
I believe that with this event, as myself one of the foreigner, would motivate not only in foreign, but all the local people with joy and our tradition, we all are foreigners,
And people choose to live here for several reasons and each one has yours, however we are proud of our homeland, as well as many Irish came out from here to live in others countries, but even so, all the Irish I have met who had this experience of being a "foreigner" know how proud of their own country and how hard is to live as a foreigner!
Open your mind, we are human beings and we have a lot to show to you.
We modernize Longford, let us rejoice, let's move on, we integrate, we will be the best town to 2016!
Everybody is welcome to help on this event, this event will be very important for all of us, believe and visualize it!
